Current position: VP of Product at Scoot
Cal Degree & Year: Haas FTMBA ‘13
For our inaugural alumni spotlight, we want to introduce you to Katie DeWitt. Katie came to Berkeley because it afforded her an opportunity to interface with interdisciplinary groups through classes, like Cleantech to Market, and through organizations, like BERC. One of her favorite memories about BERC was participating in the DOE Better Buildings case competition, which allowed her to work in a cross-functional team. Her team included students from Berkeley Law, the engineering school and other MBAs, and she ultimately got to meet then-Secretary of Energy Steve Chu (so cool)!
Katie has been focused on cleantech because there are opportunities to create really cool business models while simultaneously improving the human condition. Since graduating in 2013, Katie has worked at SolarCity, Tesla, and now is the Head of Product at Scoot. SolarCity and Tesla allowed her to explore clean energy + storage and how that fits into the broader movement towards the electrification of transportation. Scoot has allowed her to think more about equity in mobility, while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions and bringing electric vehicle access to more people at lower price points. At Scoot, Katie is focused on customer experience and software tools, working with engineering and marketing teams to ensure that the app allows for easy customer interaction and estimates the moped’s state of charge, as well ensuring that the mopeds are properly maintained. Recently, Katie participated in Scoot’s expansion into Santiago, Chile and Barcelona, Spain.
Since graduating from Haas, Katie has remained engaged with BERC. While in the real world (something those of us still in school dream about), Katie has attended BERC Alumni Reunion events, as well as BERCshops. Katie still leverages her BERC alumni network to further her career, either through developing business partnerships, learning about new fields or by continuing conversations that have led to professional opportunities.
We want to continue to recognize our alumni so please nominate them!
