Do you want to fight air pollution and win $100,000?
On October 3rd, BERC will be hosting a combined North and South American continental semi-final of the Smogathon 2017 Global Edition – a worldwide competition for projects that have the potential to fight air pollution with innovative science and technology. Semi-finals will be taking place around the world throughout October and November and the winners will fly to Krakow, Poland for a chance to compete for the $100,000 grand prize. The grand prize includes a guaranteed implementation of the winning project in Krakow, Poland.
If you are working on an innovative solution that helps deal with any aspect of problematic smog, make sure to apply by August 15th at www.smogathon.com/apply. You can decide to join the Berkeley semi-final, one of the other four semi-finals, or try your luck with the 100% online application.
All 12 finalists will get promotional support from the organizers and will be invited to exhibit their technology at the Global Clean Air Summit, which gathers business representatives, investors and decision-makers from all over the world in Krakow, Poland, to discuss practical solutions to the issues surrounding air quality. All the participation, travel, and accommodation costs for the finalists will be covered by Smogathon.
This competition will consider a diverse array of technological solutions such as (but not limited to):
indoor air purification
outdoor air purification
household heat & power generation and storage
smog as a resource
new methods to map and predict smog
air pollution prevention
