BERC is led by a dedicated team of students from a variety of academic disciplines around UC Berkeley.The leadership team drives every aspect of the organization, including planning events, chairing programs, communicating with the BERC membership, fundraising, and fostering constituent member groups.
The BERC Leadership Team is supported by a dedicated group of BERC Associates, who agree to volunteer 10 hours per semester or help to plan one event. Become a BERC Associate today! Let us know you are interested and be the first to hear about new opportunities for involvement with BERC.
TIMELINE
Each team serves for one calendar year. Each November, student members of BERC. vote for the Co-Presidents. The new Co-Presidents then select the remaining team members, based upon a written application and interviews.
The Symposium Co-Chairs and IRECC Co-Chairs are selected off-cycle - during September and October - due to the timing of their respective events. The timeline for 2010 BERC Leadership Team transition is below:

2010 BERC Leadership Team ROles
The following positions are available for the 2010 Leadership Team. Please email berc.leaders@gmail.com if you have any questions:
- Co-Presidents (2): Manage and oversee all aspects of BERC; build the Leadership Team and ensure all commitments are met; interface with external stakeholders including sponsors, partners and campus entities; ensure quality in all aspects of BERC, including its programs, events, membership development, and external relations.
- VP of Operations: Plan and execute new initiatives and special projects; coordinate strategic partnerships; handle initial inquiries to BERC; provide key operational support to Co-Presidents as needed.
- VP of Finance and Sponsorship: Create a sponsorship strategy to provide funds for BERC through current and potential sponsors; manage financial documentation and bank accounts.
- VP of Events (2): Coordinate teams of BERC Associates to organize the Fall BBQ, Energy and Resources 101 Series, the Energy Forum, the Annual Lecture, field trips, workshops, and other small events; provide strategic and operational support to BERC Liaison and other student-originated events; evaluate and act on event feedback.
- VP of Membership: Coordinate member-centered programming and resources, including organizing membership mixers and updating the BERC Career Guide; engage BERC communities through social media networking.
- VP of Marketing: Build a strategy to raise BERC’s profile externally; manage marketing materials and press releases; ensure consistent messaging.
- VP of Communications: Lead team to produce weekly BERC Newsletter that is distributed to over 2000 students, academics, and professionals; coordinate with VPs of Events to publicize BERC events to members; manage updates to calendar website.
- VP of Technology: Streamline technology-related organizational processes; provide back-end support for BERC website (no web design experience required) and BERC mailing lists; manage A/V systems, including ensuring documentation of certain BERC events.
- VP of Alumni: Build the alumni network and increase alumni connections with current BERC students; work with active alumni members to plan alumni-only and alumni-student events.
- VP of Academics: Build a strategy to raise BERC’s profile within UC Berkeley; coordinate with admissions offices across campus; team with BERC Liasions to advocate for energy and resources curriculums at their respective schools; work with the Energy Institute at Haas in continued development of the Cleantech to Market (C2M) class and other curricular initiatives; update the BERC Course Guide.
- Symposium Co-Chairs (3): [Selection for this position occurs in September] Plan and oversee all aspects of the UC Berkeley Energy Symposium, BERC’s largest annual event.
- BIS Chair (2): Lead the consulting arm of BERC, including recruiting student consultants and clients, organizing the team structure, developing a financial model for BIS Consulting, and ensuring quality results.
- SEED Chair: Lead the educational outreach program, including recruiting BERC students to serve as in-classroom teachers; help develop new curriculum; plan and oversee spring Energy Fair or Water Fair on campus.
- IRECC Co-Chairs (2): [Selection for this position occurs in October] Plan and oversee all aspects of the Regional event for the International Renewable Energy Case Competition.
- BEC Chair / LBNL Liaison: Perform outreach to the Lab, especially its Environmental Energy Technologies Division; work with LBNL employees and students to help recruit student employees and project participants.
- School/Department Liaisons (~10): [Each liaison must be a student currently enrolled in the specific department/school] Act as the bridge between BERC and a particular department/school in order to voice ideas of all membership; organize at least four events each year, including one “introduction to BERC” event, one speaker event, one social event, and one career event; coordinate with VP of Academics to develop energy and resources curriculum. ** In 2009, we have had liaisons for Haas School of Business, School of Law, Energy and Resources Group (ERG), Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP), College of Envrionmental Design (CED), Physical Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, College of Natural Resources, and Undergraduate. * If your school has not previously had a BERC liaison position, you are still encouraged to apply as BERC adds new schools each year.
