Energy Research Program Specialist - Calif. Institute for Energy & Environment

The California Institute for Energy and Environment, University of California, Berkeley is
recruiting an Associate or Full Academic Specialist for the i4Energy Center to develop and
conduct technical research on energy-related topics such as energy efficiency, demand response,
renewable energy, and climate change; organize and conduct meetings and workshops; manage
research projects; and review, evaluate and present research results.

The mission of the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) is to perform and
manage public-interest energy research in California. CIEE accomplishes this mission through
research, research planning, research project administration, and technical coordination of
research projects. Managing programs under the auspices of the California Energy Commission
(CEC) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and other sponsors, CIEE
conducts and oversees research programs in the areas of demand response, transmission,
lighting, renewable energy, carbon sequestration, environmental impacts, and energy efficiency.

The Specialist will help develop and conduct research on energy-related topics such as energy
efficiency, demand response, renewable energy, and climate change. Research will include, but
not be limited to, the evaluation of energy-related technologies, behavior of individuals and
organizations, market effects and market transformation, and barriers to the introduction of
energy-efficient technologies. The Specialist will make presentations on his/her research and will
publish his/her research. S/he will organize and coordinate technical advisory committees,
conduct workshops, attend professional industry events, and develop and edit web page content.

The Specialist will manage research projects and supervise subcontractors to ensure quality of
performance and fulfillment of contractual requirements, and will assist the Directors of the
i4Energy Center in the review, evaluation, and presentation of research results and the initiation
of technology transfer. The Specialist will be responsible for data management, and progress
reports to CEC and other sponsors.

The Specialist will represent the i4Energy Center in multi-organization program planning
meetings upon request. S/he will interface with CEC Contract Managers and proxies in the
development of innovative public interest research and interacts with CITRIS and its industrial
partners, LBNL, researchers, CEC, government agencies, and environmental organizations in the
areas of energy efficiency, demand response, renewable energy, and climate change.

Qualifications:
Applicants should hold an advanced degree in a discipline such as Engineering, Energy
Resources, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Geosciences, or Human Ecology or a
related field. Two to five years of experience working in collaborative energy-related research
and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research is required. Technical skills should
include familiarity with technologies and behaviors related to energy efficiency (primarily), and
demand response, renewable energy, and climate change. The ability to evaluate energy
programs and market effects and knowledge of barriers to the introduction of energy
technologies is desirable.

The Specialist must have proven project management and organizational abilities to plan and
independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines and budgets, and to prioritize
numerous competing concerns. In addition, the incumbent must have the ability to research and
write comprehensive reports, and strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with an array
of diverse constituencies.

Salary Range: $48,372 - $62,532.

1, 2009, with reappointment contingent upon funding availability at the Associate or Full
