Seeking Contract / Part-Time
Engineering Consultant(s)

 

 

VIASYN is
a small, privately owned company located in San Ramon, California.  We provide a variety of services to
utility-scale renewable electricity developers, owners and operators such as
wind farms; geothermal plants; biomass, landfill gas and solar facilities; etc…
located throughout the US west.

 

We also do specialized
engineering consulting such as interconnection (IC) studies for proposed new renewable
generation projects, upgrading and/or expanding transmission facilities,
regional studies of grid power system stability and control, etc...

 

At present we are seeking
one or more qualified individuals to work on an hourly consulting basis, to
begin as soon as possible.

 

Specific deliverables will
vary by project, but all projects involve broadband electrical system power
flows and power system dynamic analysis. 

 

We are currently engaged in
the following project types:

 

·     
Perform
steady-state power flow, transient stability and short circuit analyses to
evaluate system impacts related to generator interconnections in accordance
with FERC procedures;

·     
Develop
steady-state & dynamic models for new generation technologies (wind,
solar);

·     
Develop single
line diagrams and associated documentation for generator interconnection
applications;

·     
Develop short-
and long-range transmission and distribution expansion studies;

·     
Development of
system impact studies on the reliability issues of variable output generation
resources (wind, solar), and resource siting.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

·     
Bachelor's
degree in electrical engineering with power systems emphasis;

·     
Familiarity and
working knowledge of power flow, transient stability and short circuit
analyses;

·     
Strong written
and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed
technical reports.

 

 

 

 

 

The following are not
required qualifications, but are highly desirable:

 

·     
Advanced degree
in electrical engineering

·     
Experience with
Power Flow analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, Power World Simulator and/or ASPEN Power
Flow

·     
Dynamic
stability analysis utilizing GE PSLF

·     
Experience in
the planning, design and/or operations of electric utility transmission and
distribution systems
