Senior Staff Electrical Engineer, Systems Product Development – Richmond, CA
SunPower Corporation (www.sunpowercorp.com) in Richmond, CA is looking
for a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer, Systems Product Development.
The role involves engineering design and development of electrical
components for the world’s leading PV systems. This includes developing
company strategy for managing inverter technology and other system
components. It also involves working with cross-functional development
teams on new PV system products. Ideally, this role will include
developing and maintaining a knowledge base of PV electrical system
technology and regulations (existing and pending), and representing the
interests of the company on industry panels responsible for developing
and implementing new standards for the PV industry.
The ideal person will have a deep understanding of engineering
principles, concepts, and industry practices and wide-ranging
experience in electrical product design, utility-scale electrical
systems, and modern inverter technology. Experience with industry
standards and regulations for large-scale electrical generating systems
required. Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, their design and
implementation is considered a plus. Experience with certifications of
electrical products is considered a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Lead the collaboration with inverter suppliers to implement improvements and new capabilities
•Work independently and with other engineers to establish functional
requirements, and system cost and performance targets for electrical
aspects of system products and components.
•Take a leadership role in the execution of complex engineering projects, providing guidance to more junior engineers
•Advise other engineers on electrical requirements for PV system products
•Develop plans, schedules and budgets for independent and small group projects
•Develop company strategy on inverter technology and development.
•Work with external consultants and internal resources to complete
designs on time and within budget while meeting production cost
targets.
•Support the transition of the product from design to manufacturing.
•Develop specifications for electrical components of PV systems
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
•7-12 years experience in electrical engineering design or product design
•Hands-on prototyping capability
•Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
•BS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field, MS beneficial
•CAD skills
•Excellent written and verbal skills
•Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
