BERC Undergraduates

Greetings

Welcome to BERC Undergrad! This is the premier campus organization for undergraduates to engage with energy and resources issues, network with faculty and other students with similar interests, and learn about exciting careers in the energy field. We hold Events catering to the undergraduate community specifically, and others that feature a mix of undergrads, graduate students, faculty, and community members. Continue reading below to learn about undergrad programs, and also note that information about all BERC programs is available here. Send an email to taj.walton@gmail.com for more information and to be added to the BERC Undergrad email list in order to stay up to date with the latest undergrad happenings. BERC Undergrad is also on facebook.

Tea Chats

Each semester, BERC Undergrad books several members of the energy and resources community, both those in campus roles and those working for a variety of companies and organizations. These individuals are hosted in informal settings where approximately 10-25 BERC members are able to directly engage with them and learn more about their field and experiences. Tea and snacks are provided. Stay on the lookout for announcements and RSVP early to take advantage of these opportunities.

Grad/Undergrad Mentorships

The mentorship program aims to add structure, insight, direct experience, and the opportunity for future involvement with the graduate student to the undergraduate's greater BERC experience.

The mentor and protege will meet on a regular basis to a) monitor the undergraduate's academic progress, b)identify extra-curricular opportunities in relevant fields, c) discuss the decision-making process to advance the undergraduate's future, and/or d) carry out research done directly through the graduate student. The latter two points would depend on the mentor's past and present and experience while the job of identifying outside-of-class activities would require collective networking on the part of both individuals and could target professors in both students' programs.

The mentorship program would officially end before finals week, but students would be encouraged to maintain their working relationships. There are no commitments involved outside of the meetings with your mentor, but applicants are expected to pursue positions and ideas brought forth in their meetings. Thus, it is largely up to the student to make the most of their mentor's experience and wisdom. Please fill out the appropriate application below and email to berc.undergrad@gmail.com .

Internships

BERC Undergrad is currently reaching out to non-profits, government offices, and private sector companies for undergraduate internships in the energy and resources field. If you represent one of these interests and would like well-qualified undergraduates to fill internships in your office, please contact Taj Walton at taj.walton@gmail.com
