Innovation Expo plans heating up with call for posters, case competitions

A big component of this year’s BERC Energy Summit is the Innovation Expo to be held on Thursday evening, October 16th. In addition to a keynote from LightSail Energy’s Danielle Fong, there will be an Energy Innovation Case Competition and a Poster Exposition and Contest. See below for details on these two exciting activities and how you can get involved.

Energy Innovation Case Competition

Have you ever really wondered what goes on up the hill at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)? The Energy Innovation Case Competition will give you an eye into some of the new technologies that are being developed up at LBNL. The case competition will involve designing commercialization strategies and pathways to market for various technologies (in a similar vein to the Cleantech to Markets class), including cooling pigments used to reflect sunlight and energy simulation platforms for plug-in electric vehicles. Students from all departments are welcome to form a team and participate in this exciting contest!

Three finalist teams will be picked to present their ideas to Energy Week participants for a shot at a $2,000 grand prize. To learn more about participating in this case competition, please attend an upcoming kickoff session on Thursday September 11 or Thursday September 18.

Poster Exposition and Contest

BERC Energy Week is now accepting submissions for posters at the BERC Expo. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your ideas, research, thesis, and project to the entire community. People from all trades of energy will be attending the poster session. From energy financiers to startup founders, from world renowned scientist to someone just curious about energy, this poster session will expose you to people from all walks of the industry, and potentially even your next employer. BERC hosts this annual event to provide students an avenue to show off all the hard work you’ve into during your time at Berkeley. Last year over 60 posters were submitted, so don’t wait and miss the opportunity to be a part of this event and potentially take home over $1000 in prize money. By the way, registration is free and we’ll even print the posters for you!

Deadline to submit your abstract is Friday Oct. 3, 2014, and poster deadline is Friday Oct. 10, 2014.
