Announcing BERCshops

BERCshops

Launching this spring, BERCshops is aimed at creating a reoccurring interdisciplinary conversation focused on energy and resources issues and solutions.  BERCshops, which will run throughout the spring semester, are open to all in the Berkeley community and aim to bring together those from various disciplines.  Hosted by students from department across campus, BERCshops will bring experts to discuss engage with students and facilitate interdisciplinary discussions on energy and resource topics.

Thursday February 16th BERC Climate Talk with Dan Miller

DanMiller will discuss the urgent need for dramatic action on climate change and the future of clean energy investments and technologies that can address the challenge.

Mr. Miller is Managing Director of The Roda Group, a venture capital group focused on clean technology. He also serves on the board of biofuel manufacturer Solazyme, a Roda Group Affiliate, and he was previously the president of Ask Jeeves, Inc. (now Ask.com), a former Roda Group affiliate company.

Wednesday February 22nd Chinese Environmental Policy & International Cooperation

China has been painted in the news as an adversary, an economic competitor, a rising superpower to be reckoned with.  Yet there has been little focus on the collaborations between China and the world, especially on environmental policy.  During this BERCshop, experts will shed light on this issue through the lens of government, NGOs, and academia. 

Panelists include:

  • Alex Wang:  Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Boalt, former Director of the China Environmental Law Project at NRDC
  • Jessica Kao Lead for the China Initiative at USEPA Region IX
  • He Gang  PhD candidate in the Energy and Resources Group, Graduate Research Assistant for the China Energy Group at LBNL

 

Moderated by Linden Ellis, former U.S. Program Director for chinadialogue.
